re: Trooper Squad Anonymous

Thiggs motioned for silence. Every trooper in the squad swung into a kneeling position, stabilizing their weapons against their shoulders. Brato moved forward, cockiness getting the better of him. Then again, if you had the money to spend on armor like his, why wouldn’t you be a little cocky. Thaspeare swung his view to the right, searching for Sandwichman, and of course found him in a very defensible position against a wall. That guy always thought of the tactical advantage, though his tirades on being aware often grated on Thaspeare’s nerves. Losing half your face and an ear to an Imperial Agent was bound to drop your awareness somewhat. Suddenly, Brato took a small blaster bolt to the chest. Taking aim precisely and almost achingly slow, a bolt erupted from his own blaster rifle. A muffled thump and Brato pretending to dust off his chest armor, were the only things to be seen or heard. As Brato gave the all clear, Sandwichman moved past Thaspeare shaking his head, and tapped Spear on his shoulder plate. The signal to keep moving.

Thiggs chuckled over the com system, “Brat you take point, Sand cover the rear, Spear take the right flank, I’ll get left.”

The men pivoted into their positions easily, taking up the old roles of a hundred battles. These were tough times for The Saints, but they were strong bonding times for this band of characters. Sandwichman and Brato usually took turns leading the squad into hostile situations, but Thiggs was next up for training, so leading this op was the best thing they could think of. Spear was glad it wasn’t his own first lead. Preferring to be an integral part of the group, yet not in a commanding role was what he enjoyed most. The heat of battle was a part of his own psyche, and having to position other folks was not in his best interest. Brato and he thought alike on many levels, though Spear was nowhere as near as cocky as Brato. A red flash brought Thaspeare out of his reverie. The enemy had obviously spotted them and was firing upon their position. “Spear get that flank nailed down!” Dropping low and peering around the bannister he took aim on a nondescript mercenary. Downing the man, he whispered into the com, “Clear, the natives are getting restless.” Sandwichman broke in all of a sudden, “Guys let’s party in another section, or we’ll be having company soon.” Thigg’s voice squelched over the coms, “Move Now! Up the staircase, Sand and Spear take the right, we’ll take the left. And don’t do anything Sand wouldn’t do.” Spear smirked, “Got that Brat?” “Yeah I got it, just keep your own bacon out of the pan!” Brato tromped up the stairs like he was some giant.

As everyone reached the top, Brato pointed to the door in as graceful a way he could, asking the question of whether he should open stated door or not. Thiggs used two fingers to point to his visor and then under the door. Sandwichman pulled up in front of the door on cue and pulled a slender L-shaped rod out. Pointing the small end under the door, a small holovid projected from the upper piece, detailing the inner hall. From the graphic, they were able to see about a dozen soldiers standing in the light streaming from large, ceiling-to-floor windows. On a dias at the far end of the hall, a fairly thin man sat in the shadows of a towering throne. Thiggs gave a thumbs up that this was indeed the target. They prepared their gear quickly and quietly, four grenades tied together and held by Thaspeare. Thiggs swinging the heavy blaster cannon down from his shoulders and stowing his smaller blaster rifle. Brato bringing out a nice, new, shiny grenade launcher, obviously top of the line. Sandwichman bringing out the pain with his heavy repeating blaster cannon, with a thermal scan device on the targeting array.

They were ready.

re: Trooper Squad Anonymous

Wood and metal splintered and creaked as the massive doors were blasted inward. Thaspeare heaved, and allowed the grenades to skitter across the floor, the even amount of force pulling each pin. They came to a rest in the middle of the chamber floor resting in almost perfect corners and expelling a noxious green gas. The non-helmet wearing guards were the first to drop to the ground gasping. As the last one fell, blaster fire roared across the hall. Green bolts racing across the distance and causing a ghostly outline to appear in the gas. The slim armored figure of Sandwichman glided into view. The hulking, heavily armored Brato striding next to him, grenade launcher making thwumping sounds as he attached large sticky grenades to the pillars on either side of the hallway. Thiggs directed the members to the lone figure standing on the stairs. Spear was just about to swing his blaster toward the figure, when purple lightning arced from the man’s hands. The lightning poured out and into the troopers, agony causing them to lose focus. Brato was able to push the detonator on the launcher, causing massive explosions to erupt above all of their heads, bringing shrapnel and pieces of pillar raining onto the Sith. Losing his concentration, the negative energy ceased erupting from the figure. Sandwichman and Thaspeare took that moment to send a hail of bolts at the Sith, who was able to hold off the assault with a force barrier.
Thiggs calmly stated “Maneuver Force-Ten” into the comms. He then sprinted around the pillars trying to flank the Sith. Brato strode up the center, switching his launcher to a new setting. The cannon erupted grenades that hit and exploded loudly, creating spheres of impacted air to surround the dark lord, stunning him slightly. Sandwichman and Thaspeare laid down another barrage of repeating blaster fire, watching it bounce off the barrier. Thiggs shouted into the communicator, “Good job, keep him distracted!” Brato scoffed, “Let’s end this guy.” Suddenly the Sith Lord bunched up and then quickly flung his arms outward. The air in the room exploded, the troopers thrown back off their feet, and the man laughing, “I sense your arrogance, NOW let me feel your fear!” Grabbing hold of large chunks of the broken pillars with the Force, he flung them at the squad. The men were flung into the air as they were hit by the huge planetoids. Grunting and exclamations erupted over the comms, the Sith only seeing quiet mannequins dressed in armor flailing to the ground.
He walked forward, almost slithered in Spear’s mind. He was laughing openly now, mocking their attempt on his life, “Did you really think you could defeat a Sith Lord? FOOLS!” Lightning arced from him to their bodies once again. With the last of his strength, as it ebbed from his fingers, Spear pushed a nondescript white button on his armored wrist. The Sith’s eyes widened as he realized he was in the middle of the four grenades that expelled the gas agent. The grenades started beeping loudly in a quicker rate as they came closer to detonation. The Sith smirked from one corner of his mouth as he immediately swept the grenades into the rubble where the troopers lay defeated. A loud snap and a bright yellow light bloomed over the troopers, and each slumped into the rubble.
Laughing maniacally, the Sith continued shouting, “SEE! Your destruction, NOT MINE!” A loud crack was suddenly heard, and the Sith slumped forward onto the ground. “And, we’re back!”, you could hear the positive energy pouring out of Thiggs over the comms.
“Seriously?” Sandwichman sighed.
“Bout Time, Brother!”, shouted Brato.
“Spear, what was that small sun you created?”, Thiggs removed his helmet, smiling.
Thaspeare removed his helmet as well, revealing his half-scarred face and cybernetic enhancements, “It was energized bacta, healed us right up from that lightning strike. I figured he would think it was a destructive grenade and would try to hurt us.”
Sandwichman turned to him, face incredulous, “And what if he hadn’t? You would have healed him right up!”
Thaspeare just shrugged and smirked.
Brato came up behind the two men and clapped them both on the back, “Good job, now let’s get paid and get some R and R.”
Thiggs called in an evac unit and the troopers prepared the Sith for a long ride home. The Saints new base was calling to each of them, a safe home was finally a reality again. And it would stay safe because of successful missions such as this one.
