re: Star Trek: Discovery

Thoughts?

I just watched the first two episodes. Some good, but I am far from won over. Characters are to raw and the actors have not seemed to settle in to their roles yet...if they have, then that is a bad sign. The main character is more annoying than enjoyable. She seems to be a human raised as a Vulcan...not working imho.

Space battle was decent. The Klingons are...meh! at best.

It is not following canon that I can tell.

Story-wise I thought it sort of stunk. Not in the sense that it was bad writing, though you can make that argument, but that it had no originality. Bad guy lures us to an area and attacks. We are good guys and have to wait to be shot at before we can do anything. I am literally rolling my eyes as I write this! lol

Episode 3 has promise and a new captain.

So...anyone else have any thoughts on the show. I grabbed the free week to see the show. Not sure if it is worth a subscription to keep watching. We'll see.

They have stated that they intend to include homosexual characters.

If the writers really wanted to boldly go into some new territory they could have an episode about a character giving up (i.e. turning away from) same-sex attraction.

I only watch Star Trek the Next Generation reruns, all other spinoffs were junk in my opinion.

I think the recent movie "reboots" were pretty awesome. Other then that I would agree. Someday at Christian needs to make a Star Trek movie or TV show! wink

I had not heard that. So far, there is no such thing present on the show. I was upset that they did that in the Kelvin timeline; they went and made Sulu gay, married to another male and had a child. Smh.

Well, there are a lot of mixed feelings on this new show when I read comments about it on FB. Not sure it will make it past 2 seasons unless they get their act together. Then again, TNG was the worse Trek ever based on Season 1, but ended up winning the Trekkies over as the seasons progressed and they let Picard have a personality.

Let? After the first director left because the cast was too "rowdy", Patrick Stewart, who was known to be extremely uptight and professional, stepped up on an imaginary set hill and let loose a Julie Andrews song and from that point on he was the worst jokester on the set which might have had a great deal to do with the progression of Jean Luc in the story.

All I know is he sucked until he found a personality for the character.

I really enjoyed Voyager, but TNG will always be my favorite. It's also worth going through the original, but it's definitely aged. I liked it though. As for discovery, the first episode was interesting, but alas was the only one available on tv. Been wondering if it's worth the subscription.

And was curious about the show *sign*. You know they most likely will join the homosexual bandwagon.

2 Corinthians 5:21. "He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." All people are sinners by nature and by action. All people are sinners from birth. All people are born alienated from God who is Holy, cannot look upon sin, cannot fellowship with sinners. That alienation because of sin prevents us from knowing God. He is too perfectly Holy to have anything to do with sinners, except to reject them. Now the result of that rejection, the result of that alienation in time is Godlessness. The result of it in eternity is hell. So this alienation in to which every human being is born is indeed a serious issue. It means that everybody lives their life without God and if they die in that condition, will spend their eternity without God in torment.

I havent seen it yet. I've watched 3 episodes now. Episode 3 was actually decent. Maybe a good sign?
