re: Guild Wars 2 Server
by Stc95 on Aug. 5th, 2012 5:50 pm
Hello Saints!
I am Stc95 from the Christian Gamers Alliance, chapter leader of the Guild Wars 2 guild, Legacy of Elijah. I understand you are primarily a SW:TOR guild, but have also branched out into other MMOs. My questions is if Saints 3G will be expanding into GW2 and if you would be open to an idea.
I was browsing around some GW2 forums and noticed that several communities were unofficially claiming certain servers for themselves. For example, the Oceanic community has claimed Sea of Sorrows as their unofficial server. The LGBT community has also claimed a server. It struck me as to why these communities are banding together and we Christian's are not. So it is my proposal to reach out to as many Christian guilds in GW2 as possible and designate an unofficial Christian server.
If Saints 3G is planning on having an in-game GW2 guild. Would you be interested in this loose alliance of guilds and play on one server? I will try and visit this thread as much as possible to field questions, but I can also be contacted at Stc95 AT sbcglobal DOT net for questions, comments, concerns, weather forecast, etc.
Thanks so much for your time guys. I apologize if this thread should be in a different location. Any response would be much appreciated. I look forward to seeing you in-game!

To answer your question, yes some of us will be playing Guild Wars 2. We are on the server Divinity's Coast. But don't you think we should be in multiple servers? While it's good to have a christian community, we have that within our own guilds and we may just want to be on separate servers to reach more. But I'm definitely not opposed to having another christian guild on the server and who knows, having an alliance could be better.

Hey Stc95,
I think this is a great idea. Send a PM to Julmay and he will coordinate with you. Thanks for reaching out and have a blessed day.
By the way, there about 50 - 60 of us (I think based on what I remember from an internal poll we ran) that will be playing GW2 and we are actively recruiting in that game.

Actually, Verasol is heading up Alliances in GW2, Julmay is playing TOR. As was already mentioned, we'll be playing on Divinities Coast, that has already been decided. We'd love it if ya'll wanted to join us there. Contact Verasol or Julmay if you have any questions.

Perfect! I look forward to speaking with her.
I noticed however that Divinity's Coast is not an available server right now. I remember it being available for BWE2, but they have since deleted it (along with my guild's server), for BWE3. It is unknown if Anet will be restoring it for release or not.
To answer your question Cowhunterr, I think Christian groups (in real life and in-games) have adopted a mentality of creating their group and then largely isolating themselves from those around them. Whether intentionally or not. How many churches do we have as opposed to how many Churches we're supposed to have? While I completely understand the idea of spreading ourselves out to maximize our witness value, if we gather enough people together, others will notice. GW2 is high on the gaming radar and we have a shot right now at becoming a premier community in it. If a server is known for being the home of Christians people with both run from and run to it. As it stands now, most Christian guilds are like a church without a sign. We're here, but you have to run into us to know we're there. I want to put a big sign out front.. wrapped with a little barbed wire :p
If we get the majority of Christian guild's together, with just a little coordination, we can server ALL our members much better. If every guild has a Bible Study, we can have a Bible Study running 7 days a week. If every guild hosts a PvE event, we can have PvE events every day of the week. If every guild can agree, we can have a giant WvW raiding party once a week. Think of all the great things each guild does individually.. now think of what we can do together.

You make a good point. The final server listing has yet to be released, so in theory our home server could be entirely different.
Hm. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matt 18:20 . Would be interesting to see that many believers in one place, I do agree on that.

Let's make this happen guys and gals! Just to recap, I am from the Legacy of Elijah, I have been in contact with the MiLK Alliance, Saints 3G, Christian Crew, Saint's of Lions Arch, Signet of the , and Lions of Judah. I have not recieved any notable objection from any one group and most are willing to consider a Christian server if we can all agree on one.
Legacy of Elijah, Saint's of Lion's Arch, and Signet of the were looking into Sanctum of Rall as our server home. Currently there is only one large guild on Rall, Gaisgioch, which happens to boast 3400 members. Even with Gaisgioch's large population, Sanctum of Rall is still medium-low population, meaning we should have no problem getting every guild into the server. Furthermore, Gaisgioch and ArenaNet have a fantastic story behind the server name. If you are unfamiliar with it, I would highly encourage you to take a look at this article. http://wildboarinn.net/2012/07/18/my-gw2-home-sanctum-of-rall/
With the help of Saint's of Lion's Arch, we have contacted Gaisgioch's leadership asking for their reaction to the idea of a large influx of Christians on "their" server. Here is their response.
Greetings,
Thank you for asking however it's not necessary. Sanctum of Rall is a
public server and not "Ours". We are merely the catalyst for what has
become this server. Like yourselves we too focus on light emotions over
dark ones. Love, Compassion, Fellowship, Honor, Respect, Integrity, are
the staples of what we teach and incorporate in all we do. We create
very family friendly communities, however we do not force our ways on
others. We also do not allow religious discussing in vent or in our
guild chat as it tends to create barriers and hostile feelings.
Not exactly what Christ wanted. Instead we teach them companionship, how
to trust, and to believe in the possible impossible in hopes one day
their mind will open when they are ready. Finding God always requires an
open mind and a willingness not to hear, but to listen. If their not
ready to listen all you'll do is throw walls and rifts in between you
and them.
Again your more than welcome to come to Sanctum of Rall and we will be
very happy to group with you guys at times. Rall will be a safe haven
for those lights in the world of darkness. Feel free to join us.

I think it is obvious enough that Gaisgioch is a guild and community that we would be able to get along very well with. So here is my formal proposal: let us all play on Sanctum of Rall. It already has a family friendly community, its population is large enough that it will not be empty, yet spacious enough that we will all get in, it has a nice WvW record, and it's founding is on a story that tugs at the heart strings. Please take this into consideration with your guild leadership and let me know as soon as possible. I certainly hope all of you will join each other to make a server were we will be with other brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you.

If you aren't aware already and as a resource for your discussions this website, http://www.gw2guilds.org, is the de-facto official resource for where guilds are located.
http://www.gw2guilds.org/guilds/us/sanctum-of-rall is the Sanctum of Rall page and as you can see, Legacy of Elijah, Saints of Lions Arch, and Signet of the have already declared for this server.

I by no means speak for the guild.... but as an individual I would say I am not only open to the idea, but highly interested.... I would love to see us have the opportunity to steer our servers direction and have a strong moral content in our General chat so that there is no need to turn it off.
In addition if we have a large group of non-Christians who are somewhat prepared for an encounter with us. We may be more of a tool for God to bring them into the fold. Not to say we can't be used where ever we go just saying...... "If you build it they will come" creating a place where Christians hang out will make those who are curious have an obvious place to come.
Just my 2 cents

I can only speak for myself, as I have no official capacity with GW2, but I like this idea. If the population on this server is still low-medium then I see two benefits: we have the benefit of an alliance with other Christians, and secondly there are still plenty of individuals to recruit from and witness to.
I am new to GW2...I didn't think I was going to play it, but I have gotten excited about it and this is an encouragement to me.

I like the idea too-- but I too have no official capacity with the guild.

Before BWE3 it was Eternal Grove. I think the last I saw they were migrating to Crystal Desert.
EDIT: Sanctum of Rall already has a Facebook Page and website dedicated to community events for all guilds/members on the server.
