"Among the reasons for the change are the growth in nondenominational Christians who can no longer be categorized as Protestant"

Not sure what is meant by this, I'd argue nondenominational churches are still protestant churches (doesn't seem to be expounded upon at all in the rest of the article).

Other than that, I read this article and say 'yep'.

Good luck with that argument! LOL

Since being non-denominational immediately makes them not part of . . denominations (Protestants).

I think the gist was that more and more people are leaving organized church group and becoming more and more loosely affiliated. More freedom from accountability and less emphasis on doctrinal purity are the order of the day! :P

And Americans as a whole are becoming more and more secular, whether they attend churches or not!.

The Reformation is far from over, and not affiliating with a denomination doesn't make you a non-protestant (often non-denominational churches are bonded through organizations such as the EFCA, which would in itself make them a denomination). As long as your doctrine stands opposed to the Roman Catholic teachings on Scripture, justification, etc. you are protestant.

And I don't mean to derail the discussion..I otherwise agree. The ecclesiastical buffet mentality is killing the church (among many other things).

re: They had a good run!

I know what YOU think makes them Protestants LOL

Of course, by that definition, anyone who is not Catholic is Protestant (sans Orthodox I suppose)

It is interesting to note that the very division and watering down and compromising of truth that the Catholic Church mentioned in criticism of the Reformation was fairly accurate, especially when you look at what the ""mainline Protestant" denominations advocate these days.

Of course, the good ol' RCC still has it's share of issues LOL

Sad but not surprised.
