Quiet Time
Its pretty simple when you get into the new year to start yourself off right. a Lot of people do it through exercise, some do it through other means. Well one way that i have grown to really start a year off right is the same way i like to start my mornings off, through my quiet time. I know I posted something in the similar fashion when i first started posting, but i was put on my heart to get a little more in depth. I remember talking about how in James 1:19 we should go before our father in stillness. “Quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Well one thing that was really put upon my heart to do was read and do a devotion about talking with God. Its pretty amazing that this past year has flown by. One of the things that i have been doing is delving into the word. Im not just talking about chapters here and there like i used to but really reading up on the word, getting more of a sense of knowledge and self-reflection. One thing occurred to me, i am almost done with the year plan that i had started, only a couple more months and i will be done. So He put something upon my heart to continue to do. That is, delve into the word and get familiarized more with different aspects of growth and intimacy. What better way to become intimate then the most DIRECT form of communication. You know praying opens up so many avenues of growth for us, it opens the doors so that we may be open to his direction, his strength and even our convictions. In the stillness of our quiet time He’s there discipling us, whispering to us what may need to be done. He is talking to us on where we need to go, who we need to see, who we need to reach. As long as we are open to his leading, he will always be with us.
Matthew 28:20
Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
There have been instances when I would wake up and I would get into the quietness and I would just hear, “Glorify Me.” So I would sit in silence just waiting to see if there is more, I sit waiting, nothing, finally I just start thanking Him for everything. Becoming humble before Him is what He wants us to do, He knows what we are capable of even before we know it. Psalm 145:3, “Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure His greatness.” We go through so much through this life that when we are done with a hardship we tend to think that we did it. I have been guilty of that countless times. I remember a couple instances when I thought that, but the aftermath ended up happening and I realized that I needed to do it by His strength. We should always remember who is there through the thick of it, who we should thank. As we pray We should take time in reflecting on what we may have done that could be considered distasteful, I mean imagine if you were a father and your child made a mistake, you would let him learn from that mistake and come and make amends, you would hope that your child would learn from it and not do it again right? That is exactly what our Father does for us, He gives us a choice, follow His advice, or learn from the consequence. One thing you will never hear from our Father is an “I told you so.” Imagine a clean slate, even after our fifth mistake we made. Some people on earth are only allowed to make one mistake, IF THAT!
1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
He promises us to always be there for us, no matter what may happen in our life. He is waiting for us to pick up that direct line and say “Hey Lord its me again, how you been, do you have anything for me today?” You know I’m writing here and it reminds me of a challenge that the Youth pastor at my church spoke on this past Sunday. The challenge was, “Ask Jesus to ask you some hard questions about yourself.” What are somethings that you would find difficult to talk to God about? Are they things that are standing in the way of a true intimacy? What have you been thirsty or hungry for lately? Have you become thirstier for Him lately? Ask HIM what you may need to do to start to quench that thirst.
John 4:14
But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.
Spend your quiet time in search for intimacy with Him, He will guide you and He will sustain you, you just have to let Him. Remember that apart from your own quiet time, get involved in some group prayer, it brings forth unity and brotherhood, Christ was not isolated. Find others that you can bond with, your ultimate common ground is Our Father, start there if you have nothing else. Thank you for your time, I hope you have an awesome year that brings forth a fire that cannot be quenched with our own understanding. Sharpen your sword.
